1. I’m new here, what should I do?
Welcome new user. SortFix is fun and easy to use.
Please see our fun demo video or our help pages.

SortFix uses the simple basket concept meaning:
If a word is relevant to your search drag it to the "Add to Search" basket.
If a word is not related to your search drag it to the "Remove" basket.

2. What happens when I place “Power Words” in the “Add to Search” basket?
Dragging “Power Words” to the “Add to Search” will add them to the search query.
Adding a word to a search query will retrieve only the search results related to that word. More words reduce the number of the search results (So choose wisely).

3. What happens when I place a “Power Words” in the “Remove” from search basket?
Dragging “Power Words” to the “Remove” from search will tell the search engine to remove all the result containing these words.
This is a great filtering tool - all of the unwanted results will be removed, leaving you only with the related results.
Word in this basket will automatically receive the operator minus in the textual search query.

4. What does “Power Word” stand for, and why should I use it?
When performing a search you basically ask the search engine a question and receive millions of results that might be the answer your question. Like in real life a detailed question returns a better answer. “Power Words” help you to do exactly that. By placing them in the “Add to Search” basket you create a better question, and by placing them in the “Remove from Result” basket you tell the search engine to remove irrelevant results.

5. Why is it important to place unwanted “Power Words” in the “Remove” from search basket?
Dragging “Power Words” to the “Remove” from search will tell the search engine to remove all the result containing these words.
This is a great filtering tool - all of the unwanted results will be removed, leaving you only with the related results.

6. Do I need to use all of the “Power Words” each time?
Absolutely not! Using even a small number of “Power words” can really improve your search.
The best way to improve the search query is by taking small steps. Instead of dragging all of the “Power Words” at once, try dragging only 3 – 4 words to the “Add to Search” and “Remove” from search and then press the search button.

7. What does basket mean?
SortFix uses the simple basket concept. In real life you can place all kind of things inside a basket. In SortFix’s search you can drag words into a basket or out from.
If a word is relevant to your search drag it to the "Add to Search" basket. If a word is not related to your search drag it to the "Remove" basket.

8. Placing irrelevant words in the “Remove” from search basket will remove unwanted results. Will it also remove good results?

9. How can I delete a word from my search query?
If you want to delete a word from your query, simply drag it to the bottom of the screen.
You will notice a red horizontal line and an icon of a “garbage can”, if you release the word now it will be deleted.
Otherwise drag it back up and reuse it in your query.

10. Why is my search button blinking?
The blinking search button reminds you when it is wise to press the search button.
The best way to improve your search query is by taking small steps. Instead of dragging all of the “Power Words” at once, try dragging only 3 – 4 words to the “Add to Search” and “Remove” from search and then press the search button.

Advanced F.A.Q.

1. When and why should I use the "Standby" basket?
If you aren't sure what to do with a word right now but you might want to use it later. Drag it to the "STAND BY" basket.

Why? Maybe you will like to try it later in your query but there is a good chance that it wouldn’t be accessible any more. Also when you think that a “Power Words” could be a good for you but there might be a better one out there, place them in standby and press search again, you will receive additional “Power words” instead of the one you placed in the “Standby”, again without losing them.

2. What is the difference between "Remove” basket and "standby" basket?
Dragging “Power Words” to the “Remove” from search will tell the search engine to remove all the result containing these words.
Placing words inside “Standby” does not affect the search result at all. It only saves these words for future usage.

3. What does "exact phrase" mean?
“Exact Phrase” is an expression consisting of two words or more in a specific order. An Exact Phrase Search will return only the results containing the exact phrase as entered. None of the returned results will include partial matches of the phrase.

4. Why should I use an "Exact Phrase"?
Using "Exact Phrase" will help the search engine to better understand your search request. For example, let’s say that you search for an online laundry service. You will notice that several results talk about “Laundry Service” an album by Shakira which is available online, clearly not what you asked for. On the other hand try using the exact phrase: “online laundry service” and you will get exactly that.
5. How to create an "exact phrase"?
Let say that you want to search for the exact phrase “used car”. All you need to do is to drag the word “car” to the right of the word “used. You will notice that a vertical dashed black line appears, release the word “car” and you will see that the two words are connected into one. That’s it, now the search will retrieve result containing the exact phrase “used car”.

6. How do I split an "exact phrase"?
Place the mouse curser inside the exact phrase, between the two words. You will notice that a vertical red line appears, in that position double click the left mouse button in order to split the exact phrase.

7. When and why should I use "SYNONYM"?
There is more then one way to ask a question, and more then one way to answer it. For example if you are searching for a used car you should also search for a pre-owned one or even a second-hand car. By using the synonyms feature you can search all of them at once. Drag the "SYNONYM" icon on top of the word “used” and release. The search engine will retrieve results containing the original word or its synonyms. Need to deactivate it? Drag the "SYNONYM” icon once more on top of the marked word and release.

8. How do I use the "SYNONYM" icon?
Drag the "SYNONYM" icon on top of a word and release. The search engine will retrieve results containing the original word or its synonyms. Need to deactivate it? Drag the "SYNONYM” icon once more on top of the marked word and release.

9. When and why should I use "OR"?
Want to take a vacation in Italy OR France? Need to find treatment OR medicine?
Why making two different searches when you can combine them into one?

10. How do I use the "OR" icon?
Drag the "OR" icon between any two words already located in the "ADD TO SEARCH" basket and you'll notices a dashed black line surrounding them. Release the “OR” on the desired words and you will notice a thin black line connecting the words. Need to deactivate it? Drag the "OR" icon once more on top of the connected words. When double clicking on connected words and you will notice a dashed gray line surrounding them. Now you can add an additional word to the “OR” connection by dragging it inside. You can also drag one of the word outside to disable the “OR” connection.

11. What do the blue and red dots inside the search button mean?
These dots indicate that the results were “Deep Scanned” in order to retrieve even better “Power Words”.
A deeper scan equals better “Power Words”. No dot indicates that only the basic and fastest scan was preformed. One blue dot will appear inside the “Search” button” when pressing on it 2 times in a row, indicating that second level scan was preformed. Blue and red dots will appear inside the “Search” button when pressing on it 3 consecutive times, indicating that a third and highest level of scan was preformed.

12. What does “Deep Scan” mean and how can I use it?
Each time you perform a search SortFix simultaneously scans the result in order to retrieve the "POWER WORDS. By pressing the "Search" button twice SortFix “Deep Scan” will scan further and deeper into the result providing you even better "POWER WORDS" without changing the results page. Deep scan has three scanning levels; each button press will scan deeper into the results. First level - Pressing “Search” button once will perform the basic and fastest scan. Second level - Pressing “Search” button again (without changing the query) will perform a deeper scan. Third level- Pressing “Search” button 3 consecutive times will execute the deepest and longest scan. (A blue dot will appear inside the “Search” button indicating that second levels scan was preformed). (Blue and red dots will appear inside the “Search” button indicating that a third level scan was preformed).

13. What does “Query Tree” mean and how can I use it?
“Query Tree” is a cool way to monitor and access your search history. “Query Tree” saves your entire search flow, starting from the first simple query to the more detailed one created through the use of SortFix’s system. It is organized like a tree; starting at the top with your first query and going down with branches to your more detailed queries. By pressing on one of the queries in the tree, you will return to that stage of your search. You can also see how many results were viewed through each query and which search engine was used. The “Query Tree” is still under-development and new features will be released, So stay tuned.
